Vale Venezia

 Saturday 26th August 2023

Today is the day we leave Venezia and the final boat ride out to the airport. The last time I have to jump the jetty.

A very quiet start to the day with our usual breakfast. It was then checkout at 11am from the hotel but a wait of 1hour and 20 minutes for our water taxi to the airport. We would just have to hang out in the lobby which was cool, had toilet facilities, and was connected to Wifi but a bit boring.  So Paul arranged for the taxi to arrive at 12.  A much better idea.

I jumped the jetty into the taxi and off we went through crowded small canals

Our jetty. I have to jump from the step across a gap onto a moving boat. (not the boat on the other side of the canal.)

I was too traumatized to take photos early on in the small canals where we bumped into other taxis and gondolas. Corners are the worst.

Once out on the grand canal, i took my final photos of Venezia

The airport is not on the water so we were dropped off (jump the  jetty this time on a very moving unstabilised boat jetty combination).  A lovely taxi driver helped us out of the boat, took our luggage and said to follow him as his car was nearby and he could be taking us to the airport and helping us through because of the disabled person, me.

He went straight to check in, (priority) and then through priority security and then to the Marco Polo Lounge (Business Class lounge in Venice).  It was unbelievably easy and quick. They were ready to provide me with a wheelchair but we decided I didn't need one as the distance between things was not big and we had plenty of time as out flight was not leaving until 3.35pm. We arrived at the airport at about 12.45pm.

In the lounge, there were cakes and pasties and pasta and sausage rolls. Also wine, drinks and coffee.  And fruit salad.

I asked an attendant about whether there was anything gluten-bloody-free as nothing was obvious.  She had no idea what I was talking about even with my Italian!!  I found another person who found the gluten-bloody-free biscuits and a chocolate muffin and bread sticks.   I took it all as well as fruit salad and a tiny quinoa and vegies dish.

Paul's lasagna and sausage roll. My little vegie thing, muffin ec.

I got coffee and long life muffin and biscuits.

As we were moving tables I accidentally bumped Paul's glass of wine smashing it to the floor. It broke and went everywhere.

This was not an act of vengeance for the lack of gluten-bloody-free food available.  Well maybe subconsciously it was!!!

Paul thought it might have been a Greek farewell. Wrong country.
