Arrivederci Venezia

 Friday  25th August 2023

Today is the last full day in Venezia and it is a bit of a lazy rest day.

But if we are going to have a walk into San Marco, then we need to do it early as it is very hot but less so the earlier one sets out.  So goes the rationale for a not so leisurely start today.....

A whole nest of them as we went to breakfast. OK so when seen together like this, they do look less like rubbish, maybe.

And so we set off after breakfast, for a nice walk to find a church. Paul has been doing walks each morning and there e some nice things he would like to show me.

Looking back to our hotel from our first bridge

Paul descending steps on the bridge along our very own canal.

A nest of gondolas waiting

San marco or part thereof

the shoreline

don't ask. I have no idea who this is .

This is Paul on our walk

This is me on our walk, same spot

Look this bridge has a ramp. Some of the largest bridges did which helped.

The church of Santa Zachiaria

Lovely inside (and cool)

famous painting perhaps

Santo Zacharia

Beautiful

More photos of Venice and steps

There are so many gondolas causing traffic jams on the canals

Pino, this guitar is made from Murano glass.

nice restaurant

Chanel shop in San Marco

San Marco

And back for a drink at the hotel terrace bar. More rubbish. That is bird poo next to the amazing work of art. There are black birds everywhere. One evening I was really hot and suddenly felt like I was being fanned. I turned to thank whoever it was and it was a bird flapping its wings trying to sit on the table next to me. A bit icky.

After our afternoon rest, soooo Italian, we went off for a drink and some dinner. Not too early!

We had come across a restaurant earlier on our walk and it looked good as it proclaimed its gluten free food etc.

But first as we left our hotel and our little canal bay thingy, there were many people lined up for a gondola and many gondolas coming in to pick them up.

But before dinner, we found a bar to wait until it was a respectable tie to have dinner. I tried to get a picture of the black birds in the bistro but they are quick little scavengers. Just behind Paul's arm

Our drinks

Can you see the bird heading out the door?

And then dinner
Well drink , a great lambrusco

Antipasti- pork/ham/etc

Paul got bread sticks and I got mini gluten-bloody-free bread sticks. I would say we were even.

The Trattoria da Nino

My main meal of bream in bag. very nice

How it came.

Paul's shrimp pasta. Also very nice but less dramatic

It had been a hot meal so the limoncello at the end really helped.

And then one last time through San Marco to the hotel

And I was still hot so a quick ice cream selfie.

And that was the end of our last day in Venezia. I will remember the  birds, the pasta, the canals, the bloody steps and of course the ice cream.
