I do like to be beside the seaside

 Thursday, 17th August 2023

We have booked our umbrella and chairs and spot on the beach today. We think this means we can access it all day and a locker room to change.

But before beach is breakfast, our first in this hotel. I wonder how it will compare with the Hotel De Faustina in Sefro or the one in Rome. Both were pretty good.

But the Hotel De Lombre wins. Below are a couple of shots of what the normal people can eat. So many pastries as well as the normal eggs and cereals etc.

This is the gluten-bloody-free table:

yum gluten-bloody free muesli and bread

My pastries were long life etc. Nothing like the fresh bread and cakes/pastries others could enjoy.  (Pity party moment)

OK, even so,  it was the best breakfast so far.

Time for the beach!

The beach is across the road, but there are walking tracks and volleyball courts and other things. The beach is divided into numbered areas and our hotel has spots with Number 24. So we head towards 24 just opposite the hotel and make the long trek to the sand. Our ticket gives us entry and we are shown to our spot which has umbrella, 2 chairs and a little table. Nice.

Number 24!

Ours for the day

The beach is full of these. Rows and rows.

The Adriatic is pretty calm and not very deep. In fact you have to go half way to Croatia to get fully wet. Most people were just wading.  But it was really nice to get into the water. My first beach swim in a few years.

We did get further in and actually swam/paddled

Paul on the swing.

Not needing lunch after our huge breakfast, we had a walk and went back tot he hotel for a rest out of the sun. It was hot even though we managed to move both chairs into the shade.

We had an evening swim and then returned to the spa in the hotel which we had booked.

This time, there were other people there which was disappointing but i took some photos of the beach from our roof top spa.

Me in disguise

And then almost aperitif  time at the hotel.

Lots of gluten-loaded stuff. I could have some snacky things, olives and celery/carrot sticks. Yum,  gluten-bloody-free yum.

And then to dinner and we had booked at the Neptune which had views over the water and seemed quite up-market.  Until we got there.

There was loud music and lots of young people (bad sign) and more burgers and pastas than fine dining.

My pasta rigatoni with seafood and yum, Paul's pasta with prawns, also yum.

I even got bread  unlike at every other restaurant we have been to where they  just give Paul bread.
Worth a photo and it had been toasted!!!

We didn't need a secondo but we decided to share the sea bass which I was told they could do gluten-bloody free. (they did not say that as they are very polite)
It was so good that I was suspicious it had some non gluten free coating. I had to check and was reassured all good.

This is more of an after photo. It was very good with yum roast potatoes like mum used to make.

And then we left to wander the streets and find coffee. The streets were full of people at 11pm at night, shops and market stalls were all open.
One of my favourites with cute wooden animals.

Paul with our coffees served with tiny glasses of water. Very nice.

And that was the end of our day beside the seaside. We like.
