Food and Festas

 Thursday  10th August 2023

After a bad night of gluten sickness for me and an energetic walk for Paul, we ventured out for breakfast  downstairs in the hotel, by lift. Again largely cleared out by the soccer players, who may call their game football, but it will always be soccer to me.

Ben and Izzy had beaten us to brekky and were already into their eggs. Given my illness, i had a small amount of gluten bloody free bread toasted, the only to make it edible.  We are staying at the Hotel De Faustina, the only hotel in Sefro. It is good and the staff have been very helpful.

(Sorry for myself moment: I thought travel would be difficult with MS due to heat and lots of walking.  Then I fell which changed everything and I thought back to how easy travel would be with MS but without the badly bruised ribs. Then I got glutened and was horribly sick which made MS plus bruised rib look good. It is all relative)

Today we went to Montelago which is a nature reserve/hiking place with a rustic wood restaurant high in the mountains. It is unreachable in winter due to snow. A very very long way up but beautiful scenery, none of which I photographed. These are just general ones around Sefro.

At Monteago, we had an amazing 3 course meal comprising appetizers, primi piatti of home made pasta (I got the gluten bloody free stuff which was actually really nice),the secondi piatti of mixed grilled meats and potatoes and spinach. We did not need dessert.

I wish I had taken more photos.

Then to Castelraimondo that evening for  their festival of pasta and pizza I think. There were stalls and outside dining. We had been booked onto a table with Carmine, Tizziana and Manela, Matteo and Mario and Elisa and various kids. No photos. I was still not feeling great.

I did take one photo:

Ben and Izzy at the festa. It got much busier later on.

The  homemade pasta shop did not have gluten-bloody-free pasta (nor toilets) so Ben and Izzy went looking for something i could eat. At the same time, the cousins organised for me to have some meat from Gianfranco and Patrizia's food truck. They were selling freshly made pork rolls at the festa. So I got some pork for my fork. A lot of it as in 6 slices. Even though I am not a pork eater, it was very nice.  We had dinner about 10.30 and  left soon after and were back at the hotel by 12. The others stayed until 2.30am and Patricia got home about 4am. I don't know how they do it.

I have stolen some of Paul's photos of the festa

Carmine also had some photos of how the festa went later on after we had left while Matteo took some of us during:

there were fireworks and fire performers after we left

and some of my favourite people

As above.
