Venezia on Canal

Wednesday 23rd August 2023

On our first full day in Venezia, we take the advice of reception lady as usual and decide to do a taxi boat tour of Venezia and surrounds.

But first there is breakfast to navigate. How will this hotel rate on the gluten-bloody-free scale?

Well it did have a gluten-bloody-free section:

Very average but at least they have muesli

The hotel Lift is teeny tiny

Big enough for two  people and one big hat

hotel lobby is so venetian

As is the chandelier.

Breakfast was OK but the hotel is lovely and very venetian. There are little canals all around us and the hotel has its own jetty.

(Aside: The hotel is so Italian, right down to the elephant in the bathroom, I mean bidet in the bathroom.  Just as unnecessary but ubiquitous. Even in the public toilet of our last hotel. Horrible thought. I thought about using it to wash clothes but that thought was also horrible.)

The water taxi was to meet us at the hotel jetty. I needed 2 people to get me up, jump over the canal  and land safely in the boat. Still scary.  Forget the bidets and just build better jetties!

The trip was magical and I took tons of photos of interesting things which I wish I could name:

us going under a bridge. cool

Interesting taxi

Nice bridge

and there is more

And then in the afternoon we decided to walk to the Rialto Bridge area, by land this time.

We had a drink

A very sad alley way in Venice. Not all beer and skittles or something like that.

And eventually it was time for dinner. We found a lovely Bar/Ristorante. Funny that you cannot have a drink in some places unless you are eating.

This is a centrepiece!!!

They especially made these scallops gluten-bloody-free for me!! I gave Paul one of my 3. Really yum but no bread just when you need it for the sauce.

My especially made gluten-bloody-free
pasta in creme and mushrooms, ham and peas.   Very good and made from scratch.
Paul's tagliatelli with prawns and zucchini, also very good.

To finish off the meal with our testy waiter, he suggested a grappa.

A big day of sight seeing and food in Venezia.  Perfect.
